At SmartRedPen, we believe in transparency regarding how your data is processed, especially concerning Artificial Intelligence.

1. Data Processing for Grading

To provide our automated grading service, we process:

  • Student Answer Sheets: Uploaded PDF files containing handwriting.
  • Question Papers & Schemas: Content used to generate grading rubrics.
  • Grading Results: The scores and feedback generated by our system.

This data is transmitted securely to our AI providers (e.g., OpenRouter, Chutes.ai) for the sole purpose of analysis during the grading session.

2. AI Training & Improvement

Data Usage for Training

We are continuously improving our AI models to provide more accurate and fair grading. We may use anonymized data from your uploads to train, fine-tune, and refine our Artificial Intelligence models.

By using our service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use anonymized portions of your data for this purpose. "Anonymized" means that all personally identifiable information (such as student names, roll numbers, and specific institution identifiers) is removed or obscured before being used for training.

3. Data Anonymization

Before any data is used for model improvement, we strip strictly confidential markers. We focus on:

  • Handwriting Samples: To improve OCR accuracy.
  • Answer Logic: To train the model on diverse ways students express concepts.
  • Grading Patterns: To align AI scoring with human evaluator standards.

4. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain operational data to allow you to review past reports. You may request the permanent deletion of your account and associated raw data at any time by contacting support. Note that anonymized datasets used for training models cannot be retracted once integrated into the model weights.
